Beeton Forest Trail Walk
On Saturday, October 12, 2024, the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust, hosted a Trail Walk facilitated by Maxwell Matchin the Land Trust Coordinator and certified Naturalist, along with John Wilson a retired Arborist and a board member of Greys For Green, in the Beeton Heritage Forest located just a few kms. south of Beeton off the 10th line. Greys For Green was recently officially appointed as a Steward for the Beeton Heritage Forest by The Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust.
The walk was limited to 12 hikers and began with an overview and history of the forest and background information on the Land Trust’s work in helping to preserve remnant forests within their jurisdiction. As participants walked the approximate 3 km trail, many stops along the way provided specific information on how to identify unique features of the many native trees that are characteristic of a forest in the Great Lakes St. Lawrence forest region.
While Maxwell and John provided most of the information, individuals were encouraged to ask questions and share their knowledge and experiences relating to what was seen along the trail.
What was to be a 90 minute event was stretched to a 2 hour event as everyone was totally engaged in the conversations and enjoying the opportunity to be in such a beautiful and peaceful place.
