The Plastic Pandemic: Why are physicians sounding the alarm on our bodies’ chemical burden?

Until I learned that there was plastic in my toothpaste, I didn’t understand the health risks of the pervasive microplastics and their toxic chemicals in my environment and, to my horror, my body.  We eat and breathe plastic everyday, and it’s unavoidable.  Plastic Free July is a time for us to pledge to reduce our use of plastic.

In May, the Environmental Advisory Committee of New Tecumseth sponsored the 2nd Annual Earthfest by kicking off the event with a screening of the award-winning documentary, Plastic People.  The screening was followed by a panel discussion, moderated by Greys for Green, featuring experts from the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE), Environmental Defence and the Canadian Partnership for Children’s Health and Environment.

Read panelist Dr. Donald Cole’s thought-provoking article on the event and his ask of us to engage in the issue.

Small steps can make a difference.
